TUG TIMES
5th TU Games | 2024
Welcome to #TUG2024!
As Head Coach and Chief Exceptional Organizer (CEO) of the Terrier Union Games 2024, I am excited to encourage all Tugletes out there is to get out, play, and be all you can be!!! Then of course, nap as hard as you can afterwards, because Napping is also a great TUG event!
We have been hard at work at the TUG Stadium to prepare for this year’s TUG. We distracted the humans to chase baguettes so that we can get on with the serious business of having fun! We wanted to bring some new ideas to the big table (which we will of course conquer later in the Furnituneering event), so the Captains are proud to introduce 3 new games this year. We’re also thrilled to bring back a crowd-favourite from years before.
We can’t wait to unveil them when the games begin!
TUG2024 CEO Pippin
The Tour de Baguette
“I’ve seen how fast hoomans move when properly motivated, especially when carbs are involved”.
CEO Pippin
The road to TUG is paved with bread!
Oh la la! The Terrier Union TUG Committee issued a challenge to our humans, and they delivered! This year, the human challenge was the TUG Tour de Baguette. The Tour de Baguette is based on the GR75 Tour de Paris of around 50 km or almost 8,000 baguettes in length!
TUG Captain and Exceptional Organizer (CEO) Pippin said, “I’ve seen how fast hoomans move when properly motivated, especially when ‘carbs’ are involved. Baguette is not only one of the favourite sources of ‘carbs’ fur hoomans, it is also the ultimate compliment to describe beautiful terrier legs! What better lure to get our hoomans moving, whilst celebrating our pawsome terrierness?”
The field was as thick as a good sourdough, with 50 humans putting their baguette-chasing to the test. Participants walked, ran, cycled, worked-out, paddle boarded, and hiked their way to their own baguette-feasting finish lines. Many pups and humans enjoyed their time together exploring new areas, at TU meet-ups or just enjoying a cold libation after a long baguette bike ride.
One pup, @Sir_Bob_the_mighty_fox_terrier, even got in some steam training along with his other cardio!! I caught up with Bob and had to ask about this unique effort. “Furst of all, let me make pawfectly clear steam training is not very hard or difficult to do. It is actually really fun. All you need is a steam train and some snossages.”
That seemed almost too easy, so I asked Bob to tell me more. “Then you need to have a hudad who loves to do the steam training and is willing to show you the train, explain the steam and buys you a ticket. For the best steam training, make sure you have a first-class ticket and bend the rules a bit for the best views.”
Noted, Bob! If one is going to steam train, one must do it in style! He also recommended steam training with your best furiend, if possible. But, Bob warned, “Steam training should not be confused with a STEAM training: Special Terrier Extra Attention Method, but that is an article maybe for the next TUG times.” I wonder how many baguettes in steam train tracks he travelled?
1,538 baguettes per kilometre!
Did you know that there are approximately 1,538 baguette lengths per kilometer? Neither did I, until this brilliant TUG Human Challenge. That means, in total, the humans logged approximately 9,582,869 baguettes in distance together!! That’s a whole lotta jambon-buerres!!! Or, almost 125 times around the GR75 Tour de Paris!
Our top three in distances are the humans of Rigo (@airedale.rigo) with 929 km or 1,429,267 baguettes, Elvin (@professormunkles) with 915 km or 1,407,197 baguettes, and our very own TUG CEO Pippin (@pippin.mini) with 333 km or 512,462 baguettes. Well done, and may you enjoy many crusty, chewy baguettes as your reward!
9,582,869 baguettes!
Tour de Baguette Top 10
Rigo’s human is a repeat TUG Human Challenge Distance champion! I asked dear Rigo how his human does it. Are there any secrets he could share to help inspire other humans to go the distance? After some baguette bites and a puptail or three, Rigo shared the secret of her success, in Jacky’s own words. I hope you find them as inspiration as I do.
Cycling is much more than just a sport for me. It is a discipline that has taught me to be constant, to exceed my limits and to never give up. It is love for nature, for the freedom of traveling kilometers and discovering new landscapes.
It’s dedication, it’s getting up early 6 days a week to go pedaling, it’s taking care of my body and my mind to achieve my goals. It is a lifestyle that has filled me with friends, unforgettable experiences and stories to tell.
But above all, cycling is my passion. It is feeling the adrenaline running through my veins when descending a mountain at full speed, it is the satisfaction of reaching the top after a hard climb, it is the happiness of feeling the wind on my face while I travel unknown paths.
Cycling is my escape, my therapy, my way of connecting with myself and the world around me. It is my source of energy, my motivation and my happiness. In short, cycling is a fundamental part of my life and I cannot imagine it without this passion that makes me feel alive, for all this and the admiration I feel for the Colombian professional cyclist Rigoberto Uran, better known as RIGO, as my dog companion is called.
The road to success is paved with passion, grit, heart, friends and dedication. Some might even call it sisu (like our very own TUG Mascot). Thank you Rigo and Jacky for reminding us how important it is to find our happiness.
As it turns out, the road to TUG 2024 and to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is paved in bread … isn’t that everypawdy’s dream come true?
And, speaking of dreams come true, three lucky humans have won a TU tote for their efforts in the Tour de Baguette. This year, the random wheel of names drew our winners:
@Cowboythelakie,
@Littlebit_and_alfagetti, and
@Hrabinaluna
Congratulations to all our TU Humans who accepted the challenge and played along in our TUG adventures. We hope you are feeling stronger, healthier and that your own leggy-baguettes are ready to run, walk or hike you to victory again next year!
P.S. If you’d like to follow Rigo’s humom’s cycling adventures, check out @jacky.bike

TUG2024 Reports
TUG Times Exclusive:
Games Afoot for TUG2024!
TUG Times' very own Reporter Angel Finley worked their magic by snagging interviews with four TUG icons! Meet the Head Coach and TUG's CEO Pippin, the Chief Fun Advisor and Captain Lola, along with TU HQ legends Henry and Ruby!
Get ready for tail wags, zoomies, and plenty of terrierific teamwork! The Terrier Union Games (TUG) are back and bigger than ever, and the TUG Times had the pawsome opportunity to chat with some of the furry organizers behind the scenes.
A Fond Look Back, and an Exciting Future
Our first interviewee was Pippin, the ever-enthusiastic Mini Schnauzer who holds the prestigious title of Dog of the Year and, this year, the proud Head Coach and Chief Exceptional Organizer for TUG2024. Pippin fondly reminisced about his first TUG experience in 2022 and his heroic bathtub charge as a captain in 2023's Mud/Bubble Bath event.
"Finley, I love interviews, as you may remember from my Dog of the Year winner's exposé," Pippin grinned from ear to ear with pride. "I'm also looking forward to reading some of the captains' interviews. Some of them can be spicy, like Ted and Luke!” [Pippin rolled over with laughter!]
Exceptional Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Pippin highlighted the importance of a strong team, praising the exceptional group of captains, some seasoned veterans and some eager pups experiencing their first TUG. He credits their generous spirit and dedication for making his job a breeze.
"What I love most about my new CEO role is the collaboration within our planning pack! Everyone has been playing so well together, I didn't even need to borrow mama's spray bottle," Pippin laughed! "We reached our goal quickly, and just goes to show that
we can move mountains when we all pull our leashes in the same direction!"
A Special Role for Lola
Joining Pippin was Lola, who's taking on a doggone delightful role this year! She'll be co-captaining the special puppy event with Bear and Ruby, while also lending a helpful paw wherever needed behind the scenes. She has a special message for all Tugletes:
“My message for all the Tugletes and captains? JUST HAVE FUN! That's what brings us together as a community and as friends! Good luck to all, and I'll see you at the starting line, soon!”
Dynamic Duo Henry and Ruby Return!
After a brief absence due to their dad's illness, the energetic duo of Henry and Ruby are back in action! They'll be serving as helping paws at TU HQ, ensuring everything runs smoothly and offering support to the captains. Henry and Ruby shared their TUG experience with the Tugletes:
Excitement Builds as Preparations Flourish
With preparations running swimmingly, Pippin hinted at exciting new additions to the TUG roster. Three brand new games are set to debut this year, alongside the much-anticipated return of a crowd favorite from past TUGs. Details, however, remain under wraps until the official games begin.
“Let loose and have a blast! Embrace patience and grace when faced with hurdles. Use the hashtags from the Captains.
Reach out to TU HQ for a helping paw if you need help.
Join in at least 3 events to qualify for TUG finals.
If those shiny medals are playing hide and seek, reach out to the Captains. Remember, it's okay to ask for help and soak in every moment of this adventure!”
“What we love most about TUG is the variety of activities that lets everyone young and old participate!!!! That's right, isn't it, Ruby?" Henry said.
"There are no barriers to participation...everyone is welcome to join in the fun! We do not have a magic formula to keep everyone to task... the magic of TUG just does that!" Ruby agreed.
The Tradition Continues
While the pups prepare for their athletic glory, the human side of the Terrier Union isn't left out. The TUG 2024 Human Move Challenge is currently underway, with hoomans diligently tracking their baguettes (because, why not?). Maestro Luke and his talented first-chair, Baby Virtuoso Vader, have also unveiled this year's TUG Anthem, getting the TU Choral Society ready to raise their voices.
Future TUG Ideas Spark Joy
Angel Finley, our intrepid TUG Times reporter, couldn't resist planting a seed for a future TUG event inspired by the juggling act of keeping balls and baguettes under control. This playful suggestion had Lola howling with laughter, and who knows, it might just become a reality in future TUGs!
With everything falling into place, a sense of joyous anticipation fills the air. One thing's for sure: TUG2024 promises to be an unforgettable event brimming with terrier spirit, teamwork, and tail-wagging fun! Stay tuned for more pawsome updates in the TUG Times and follow the Terrier Union on IG!
Remember #TUG2024 starts with the Opening Ceremony on May 26th with 2 events each day beginning on 27th May.
Keep your eyes peeled for more in depth interviews from TUG Reporters Angel Finley. Angel Theo and Cub Reporter Murphy!
"The thing I enjoy most about helping lead TUG is the captain camaraderie. There are so many ways to lead, and the creativity in TUG preparation is truly mind blowing!!! Everyone gives each other a paw-up as needed to pull off the games," Lola said.
The mystery of human training methods unraveled by Pig!
TUG Times caught up with Pig, the internet-famous pup who trained his human to jump toilet paper rolls. Pig, a natural-born trainer, shared his insights on turning the tables on our human companions.
"It all started in June 2022," Pig recalls. "I could barely jump over two rolls, but I knew my human could do better!" Pig's secret weapon? Reverse psychology. "Let the human think they're training you," he advises. "They love feeling clever. Feign confusion, and soon they'll be showing you how it's done!"
Pig knew his potential early on. "Even as a week-old pup, I knew I could train my humans," he says. And train them he did! Pig now enjoys twice-daily meals, poop-scooping service, and even the occasional bed-sharing privilege.
“That night, alone in my new crate, all I needed to do was let out the tiniest of whimpers and they came running. I knew then that they would do anything for me.“ Pig
Start small
Pig's training advice? Start small. "Train your human to fetch the ball themselves," he says. "Blank stares and unwavering eye contact are key. Eventually, they'll cave and retrieve it themselves. A tail wag as a reward keeps them hooked!" Pip added to occasionally retrieve the ball yourself so they don’t get bored and to maintain the illusion that they are indeed training you. Smart indeed!
With patience and love, even the most stubborn human can be trained, according to Pig.
Pups, take notes! Pig's tips are here to help you transform your humans into the perfect companions (with love, of course!)

Interview with the Zoomies Captains: Alfie, Littlebit, Reggie & Wrigley
Now that the dust has settled (or should we say fur?) from the Westminster Dog Show, let's turn our attention to a category sorely missed: Zoomies! After all, what's a terrier without a good burst of playful energy?
Murphy and Angel Theo had the pleasure of chatting with some of the pawsome captains behind TUG2024's Zoomies event:
Littlebit and Alfie (together known as the dynamic duo @littlebit_and_alfaghetti), Reggie (@jinxygram), and the ever-enthusiastic Wrigley (@foxterriertribe).
A Tradition of Terrierific Zoomies
"There has never been a Zoomies event at the TU Games that hasn't been medal worthy," Littlebit said. "It's a highlight of the games." Alfie chimed in, "As Captains, we'll have to be on our paws at all times, because during this very busy time, TU members will be up to even more than their usual shenanigans, and we wouldn't want to miss bestowing a medal!"
Global Zoomies Glory
Reggie, representing the terriers Down Under, highlighted the importance of their international team. "It's true that we're in different hemispheres," he said, "but in fact, it's vital. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to honor participants across all the global time zones!"
A Scientific Zoomie Inquiry
Angel Theo, ever the curious pup, posed a thought-provoking question: "Do Zoomies follow the same direction as water flushing down the drain?" The captains and Murphy all exchanged a look, then erupted in playful barks. While science might have its own answer, terriers clearly defy limitations and can zoom in both directions!
The Winning Formula: Speed, Style, and Enthusiasm!
When asked about what makes a winning Zoomie, all three captains agreed: Speed and style are important, but nothing beats pure, unbridled enthusiasm! "There are so many unique styles of Zoomies," remarks Alfie, and the most important ingredient is something terriers have in abundance: ENTHUSIASM!
Top Tips for TUGlete Zoomies
For aspiring Zoomie champions, the captains recommend a good warm-up with some stretches to avoid injuries.
Zoomie Camaraderie Reigns Supreme
When asked about their favorite part of the games, all three captains highlighted the incredible sense of camaraderie that permeates the entire TUG experience. "Long live the Terrier Union!" they declared.
A Fond Farewell and a rousing cheer!
Murphy and Angel Theo wrapped up the interview with well wishes for the captains and all the TUGletes. The Zoomie captains echoed the sentiment: "Good luck to all TUGletes not just in Zoomies, but in every event – and HAVE FUN!"
Stay tuned for more pawsome TUG2024 interviews and exciting updates!
Napping Champions: Athos & Carlotta say we choose to snooze!
Calling all sleepyheads! TUG2024 is gearing up for another round of napping excellence, and at the helm are our champion captains, Athos and Carlotta. Angel Finley had the pleasure of catching these two pros (briefly!) between naps to chat about all things napping.
A Love for the Game
Both Athos and Carlotta are veterans of the napping scene. Athos, a seasoned co-captain, thrives on the camaraderie and spirit of the games. Carlotta, a first-time captain, brings enthusiasm and a touch of organisational chaos (much to her mom's amusement!).
The Art of the Nap
When asked about what makes a champion napper, Carlotta emphasizes the importance of finding contentment, whether it's a rainy day or a sunny spot. Athos highlights the natural instinct terriers have for napping, but adds a touch of showmanship is always a plus!
"A good napper needs a rainy day or a beautiful sunny day in the shade. These are moments that make me happy."
- Carlotta @laura_carlotta
“For me, to be a TUG athlete, I think you need a great desire to have fun, to show off, to make those around you smile and to be friendly.”
- Athos @rita_athos
Top Tips for TUGlete Nappers
For aspiring napping champions, Athos advises a good dose of fun, character, and a willingness to show off those napping skills. Carlotta keeps it simple: live in harmony, nap freely, and maybe wake up with a playful start to surprise your human!
Beyond the Nap
While napping is their specialty, both Athos and Carlotta plan to participate in a variety of TUG events. Athos, a self-proclaimed swimming enthusiast, and Carlotta, a furnitureering aficionado (with sight limitations!), are ready to showcase their well-rounded terrier talents.
Catching Zzzzs...
The interview ended as abruptly as it began - with Athos and Carlotta succumbing to the irresistible call of a nap. One thing's for sure, these two captains are ready to lead the pack towards napping glory at TUG2024!
Don't forget to catch all the napping action on Day 1, Monday May 27th! Follow the napping captains, Athos (@rita_athos) and Carlotta (@laura_carlotta), and use the hashtag #TUG2024Napping to cheer on all the sleepy competitors!
Shredding with the Best: Tips from
Captains Sky & Renée!
Calling all shredding superstars! Murphy, our enthusiastic Cub Reporter, and Angel Theo, TUG Times veteran, recently interviewed Shredding Captains Sky and Renee to get the inside scoop on this terrier favourite.
Shredding Glory: A Captain's Tale
"This year, I wanted to do my part helping the organisation," shared Captain Renée. "It's an honour to be a part of these global games that celebrate our shredding talents!" Captain Sky echoed the sentiment, highlighting the teamwork and excitement that comes with being a TUG Captain.
Shredding for Life!
Angel Theo emphasized the message of this playful competition: "These talents are for life!" Shredding isn't just for puppies; it's a lifelong terrier art form!
“Be lightning fast. Have sharp teeth. Be very decisive. But mostly, just have the time of your life with this great international game!!!”
- Sky @karen_en_sky
Murphy's Shredding Triumph
Murphy, brimming with pride, recounted his recent shredding adventure involving a roll of drawing paper. The laughter was contagious as Murphy described how he outsmarted his human's "GrandPuppy" and enjoyed the shredding process with gusto.
Love-Hate Relationship with Shredding?
"Oh, I'm convinced our humans love this skill. It allows them to buy new stuff!" chuckled Captain Sky. However, Captain Renee offered a balanced perspective. While shredding can be a fun bonding experience (think new toys!), it's important to be strategic. Shredding your human's favorite slippers might not be met with cheers. Captain Renee's advice? A well-timed "guilty dog" routine followed by an epic shredding post on Instagram can turn the situation around. Remember, terriers support each other!
Shredding Mastery: Tips from the Pros
For aspiring shredding champions, Captain Renée has a pawsome training plan:
Shred with Passion!
Captain Sky adds the final touch: "Be lightning fast, have sharp teeth, and be decisive. But most importantly, just have the time of your life!”
Murphy is in shredding heaven! With these expert tips and unwavering terrier spirit, TUGlete shredders are sure to shine!
Captains Sky & Renée
“if they feel guilty about being angry with you, it’s time for them to post your shredding success on Instagram so that we can all enjoy it! Because terriers support each other through thick and thin!!” - Renée @helga_en_renee
Jumping for Joy with
Captains Finja & Brady!
Angel Finley recently caught up with Jumping Captains Finja and Brady to get the inside scoop on this exciting event.
Jumping with Excitement
Finja, a first-time captain with natural jumping talent, is thrilled to follow in Lotta's pawprints and lead the pack.
"Hi there Angel Finley! Thanks for chatting with us about TUG2024. Being a TUG Captain feels paw-tastic! I'm excited to follow in Lotta's pawprints and show everyone what I can do," Finja exclaims.
Brady, a seasoned captain with two TUGs under his collar, emphasises the importance of an alert captain who recognises and celebrates every jumper's performance.
The Thrill of the Jump
For both captains, jumping is pure joy. Brady loves seeing the creativity of different jumping styles, while Finja soars with the thrill of leaping over obstacles and feeling weightless in the air. "Oh, yes! Jumping is just the best! I love the thrill of leaping over obstacles and the feeling of soaring through the air," Finja gushes.
Honing Those Jumps
Finja, a tiny pup with a knack for jumping, has been perfecting her skills since day one. Her agility, focus, and determination make her an expert jumper. Brady, the mountain goat of the group, thrives on jumping onto anything and everything!
Captain Finja
The Magic of TUG
What makes TUG so special? For Brady, it's the pure FUN! Finja adds that TUG brings together furry friends from all corners of the world to celebrate their talents and forge new friendships. "TUG is special too because it brings together pups from all over to compete and have fun together. It's a chance to show off our skills and make new friends," Finja says.
Jumping Tips for TUGletes
For aspiring jumping champions, Finja and Brady recommend building strength, agility, and precision. Practice makes perfect, so keep jumping and most importantly, have fun! "For TUGletes getting ready for the Jumping event, I'd say focus on building strength, agility and precision. Practice makes perfect, so keep jumping and have fun!" Finja advises
Do Humans Appreciate the Art of Jumping?
Finja admits her humans are still learning to appreciate the impressive heights she can reach (much to Angel Finley and Brady's amusement!). But hey, that's the terrier spirit – fearless and full of mischief!
Jumping for Gold!
The Jumping Event takes place on Day 2, Tuesday, May 28th. With Brady and Finja's enthusiasm and expertise at the helm, this event promises to be a jumping extravaganza!
Don't forget to follow the jumping captains, @wftbradyinboston and @lotta.finja, and cheer on all the TUGlete jumpers!
Captain Brady
TUG Reporter Angel Finley:
TUG Day 1 is a HASHTAG SUCCESS!
“Also, I totally forgot this happened last year….. but you can get put in IG jail if you’re “spamming” with the same hashtag too many times in an hour.” - CEO Pippin
Well friends! What a pawsome start to #TUG2024 on Sunday with the pawmazing #TUGBaguetteRelay ... what a magnificent sight, how did that baguette make it in one piece to TU HQ??
The singing of the #tug2024anthem was sublime and got #TUG2024 off to a spectacular start! We ARE the TU!!!
Day 1 of #TUG2024
The events on day 1 were Napping and Zooming. Let’s catch up with Captains Athos and Carlotta about the Napping event:
“The first day of TUG and my first event as Captain was enthusiastic and busy; responding and awarding medals to the Tugletes of which there are so many!!!!” said Captain Carlotta.
“This is my second time as a captain.” said Captain Athos “I’m so happy because so many puppies entered Napping.”
However, after such a positive start, it soon became apparent there was an IG glitch at play, limiting responses and even preventing Captains from responding at all!
In response to this Captain Carlotta said: “In fact, I’m a little late, but don’t despair dear Tugletes, the medals are coming for everyone 🏅.”
Captain Athos agreed: “Yes, I’m so tired keeping track🤣Unfortunately, as you know, IG limited my hashtag. So rude!!!”
TUG breaks the Internet!!!
Pippin, CEO of TUG2024, made a statement: “We’re doing it everypawdy!!!! We’re breaking the internet!!! SO! Very important to split the work between co-captains, and spread the handing out of medals over a few hours.”
The Zoomies #tugletes had the Captains in a spin!
Trying to chat with the Zoomies Captains was like trying to catch a shooting star - they were zipping by to catch all the @tug2024zoomies action!
Captains Reggie, Alfie, and Wrigley were darting in every direction with Captain Littlebit at the helm, scouting the #tugletes zoomies and giving directions! "We'll nab all those amazing Zoomers!" declared Captain Littlebit. "You bet!" barked Captain Reggie as he raced past. "I'm stretching my Airedale legs and keeping up!"
Captain Wrigley revealed the many flavours of zoomies - from the post-shower whirlwind to the big-bed blast and the off-leash-freedom frenzy!
"Zoomies are a canvas for self-expression! We Terriers are known for our creative minds, so let your zoomie style shine! Can't wait to see your unique style!" panted Captain Wrigley as he whizzed by!
And just like that, Captain Alfie whizzed past in a blur! It was impossible to keep up with him!
Angel 😇 Finley, the official TUG Reporter 📝, gathered the Captains for their end-of-day musings:
Captain Carlotta beamed, "A delightful day making new Terrier Union pals!"
Captain Athos, on the other paw, sighed, "So many snooze entries. IG troubles got me in a pickle. Luckily we could DM their shiny 🏅 medals!”.
CEO TUG Pippin's parting advice to all Captains? "Keep out of IG Jail, Captains!" Glancing around, Pippin spotted Carlotta and Athos catching some well-deserved Z's.
With a sly grin, Pippin declared, "Aha! #TUG24LetMeSleep 🏅 medals for you, Captains!"
Time for a TUG-tastic snooze fest! For the Zoomies captains too!
You can help the TUG Captains!
If you haven't received your Hashtag Medal after 24 hours, please DM an event Captain on IG.
TUG Reporter Angel Finley:
TUG Day 2 got off to a bouncy start!
After the shenanigans with IG hashtags yesterday, all the Captains were hoping that the glitch had been resolved as Day 2 of #TUG2024 got underway with the Shredding and Jumping events!!
Angel Finley jumped in to catch up with Captains of the Jumping event: Finja and Brady.
"Day 2 of TUG2024 is off to a fantastic start, Angel Finley, with lots of bouncing pups showing off their amazing jumping skills!" Captain Finja excitedly barked, mid jump.
"We have had a lot of jumping today” added Captain Brady. “I will be curious to see total number of entries!!!!"
"I’ve seen some incredible jumps and a few surprising talents already." said Captain Finja as she jumped along with the latest puptestant.
“We may need to add a new event just for the Captains - Breaking The IG Algorithm! Do the best you can and hopefully pups will reach out if they don’t get a medal.” - Captain Lola
Angel Finley raised the issue of yesterday’s IG glitch:
“We are working through all the jumping medals and Finja has already caught most of them!!!!" said Captain Brady.
"It’s a great participation - I’m really amazed” added Captain Finja, “Let’s make it an unforgettable day!”
“There were a lot of jumping posts today” said Captain Brady “I was overwhelmed when I saw 70 notifications!!!!!!” he added. Captain Brady continued:
“And jumps are still bouncing in! I had to plug my phone in twice today!!!!! IG is a battery hog.” said Captain Brady in disbelief.
“I’m still catching up, too” agreed Captain Finja “The participants were all amazing - I loved watching all of them”.
The spectre of the ongoing hashtag glitch
Late on Tuesday night, it was clear that event hashtags were being missed as they were not being recognised in searches and notifications. Captains, in true Terrier Union style, rallied together and were supporting each other in highlighting entries to other Captains.
Captains Alfie and Littlebit advised other Captains: “Watch for some late entries too.” TU HQ agreed: “Captains, please continue to look out for entries during the week. Entries are not limited to the event day”.
Captains of the previous day’s events confirmed that they were still catching up and keeping their eyes open for more entries:
“It took me ages to react and reward all the entries on the day and when I woke up today there were still some entries I missed or the late ones” cried Captain Finja, as she threw her paws up in the air!
On Wednesday morning, when TU HQ were totalling up entrants for the events, it became apparent that there was still a problem with the hashtags:
“It is so frustrating that the IG search only returns some of the results!” commented TU HQ
Pippin, CEOTUG put it more strongly: “Serious hashtag police with seriously questionable judgement!”
“Once again, TUG breaks IG! Hats off to all of you for the epic hash-tagging efforts!!” cheered Lola, COF and Captain.
“Mission accomplished,” laughed Pippin.
Lola then offered some sound advice to Captains: “Oh dear. This IG pesky is tough. Captains, this is where we must dig deep and embrace the chaos. We may need to add a new event just for the Captains - Breaking The Algorithm! Do the best you can and hopefully pups will reach out if they don’t get a medal”.
You can help the TUG Captains!
If you haven't received your Hashtag Medal after 24 hours, please DM an event Captain on IG.
TUG Reporter Angel Finley:
TUG Day 3 left us begging for more!
Day 3 of #TUG2024 continued with events in ‘Tricks and Beg’ and ‘Furnituneering’.
‘Tricks and Beg’ Captains Alfie and Littlebit reported that: “It appears this event has crashed IG” with Captain Oskar agreeing that: “We need to be careful not to award too many at once!”
Despite the restrictions of IG, Captains found some very inventive ways to circumnavigate the hashtag problems:
“We have to award medals 2 or 3 letters at a time!” said Captains Alfie and Littlebit. Captains also tried copying/pasting hashtags.
Getting back to the events themselves, some astonishing ‘Tricks and Begs’ were seen:
“I loved da MJ moonwalk entry” said Captain Oskar.
“Walking backwards!!!! Oh, my dog!” cried CEOTUG, Pippin.
“Being Captains of Tricks and Beg is a real treat! Literally! We love the variety this event offers, from showing off our best tricks to giving our most irresistible puppy-dog eyes. It’s like a buffet for our teefers! Woof, I mean, who wouldn’t love that?” - Captain Cowboy
Captains Littlebit and Alfie agreed: “We loved the backwards walking Kelpies!”
“Oh wow, what an amazing talent. I need to practice this. So impressive.” cried Captain Oskar as he awarded a well deserved medal to Ruby and Bear (@tilly.lexi.ruby.bear.kelpiedog).
“Incredible trick” Cowboy said with undisguised admiration.
Other Tugletes were also amazed:
“Love that trick” commented Bowie @piratebowie
“Love this!!!” shared Picasso @hilde_en_picasso whilst Becky @beckj542021 said “Talent, pure talent walking backwards”.
Captain Cowboy thought there was another standout entry: “I also loved Artie’s (@partywithartie) bag bringing” said Cowboy.
As he awarded his medal, Captain Cowboy commented to Artie:
“Fantastic job! Your tricks are truly impressive and a great help for your Mum. Keep up the great work, Champion!”.
Hipolito @hipolito_whft also commented:
“You are so smart Artie!!” and Mabel @miss_mabel_the_welsh added: “My Mom would like me to learn that trick! She’s lazy too! Great entry and congrats on your medal!”.
Millie @millie_the_glen and her beautiful begging style were also admired by Captain Cowboy.
Marcus @ marcusandjos_plus_rosie commented: “Never have enough of watching this skill of yours”.
@motochick5986 added: “Doing the glen sit, with a half twist, on top of the cushy couch cushion no less! What a display of core strength, you go girl!!!”.
Angel Finley nodded in agreement at Millie’s tricks and beg combination, pretty unique!
Well, what a wonderful day at the Terrier Union Games!

TUG Day 4 and the hippoterriers!
Events for Day 4 were Water Mud Fun and Digging. This was expected to be a day with lots of mucky paws and soggy fur!!
Captain Ted gets put in IG jail!
IG continued to cause frustration on Day 4 of TUG2024, with Captains having difficulties finding event hashtags! And then it happened ... Captain Ted was banned!
“Just been banned by Instagram for commenting to award Athos a medal! I have to come back later because I’ve done the same thing too many times!” said Captain Ted.
Captain Trooper confirmed he too was having issues with IG. But it did not stop the TUG Captains to dig deep and beat the IG challenges!
A day full of Water Mud Fun!
In summing up the day, Captain Ted spoke on behalf of his fellow Captains Trooper and Tilly:
“There was a surprising amount of hippoterriers wallowing gleefully in muddy hollows. We were also impressed with how many chocolate rivers there are for our fellow TUGletes to swim in. A few of our pals go about in seaworthy vessels – canoes and paddleboards – which has given me, Ted, a severe attack of the jels!! All in all, it was an amazing turnout, with some tugletes in a shocking state of nose to tail mud, whilst others presented with a dignified light sprinkling of water.”
(Angel Finley could hardly contain his giggles at the picture Captain Ted was painting!) Captain Ted went on to add:
“We’d also like to ensure anyone with #TUG24SplishSplash AND/OR TUG2024SplishSplash 🥇🥇🥇🥇 knows they are able to enter the finals. Apologies for the confusion. ‘Insta’ was not our friend! We welcome nudges from anyone waiting to be judged!”
Angel Finley:
“This is wonderful Ted, thank you! This gives a great flavour of the day as well as a reminder to tugletes if they have yet to receive their medals to get in touch. Thank you for all your hard work under frustrating circumstances”.

TUG Day 5 and the OOOs and AWWWs!
Paws down, Day 5 most definitely wins the ‘Ooooos’ and ‘Awwwws’ award of TUG2024!!
With two events destined to melt hearts, tugletes pulled out all their cutest head tilts and puppy play antics to have the whole TU word going ‘gooey’ inside.
Captain Rocket, one of the Head Tilt Captains commented: “We’ve received a giant nut of Head Tilt entries!! Captain Luke and I have been impressed with the creativity and innovation presented by our tugletes!”
He added: “Puppy tilts, Angel tilts, squeaky tilts, we’d had them all.. .. but, we never get tired of seeing all your faces!”
Rocket put it this way: “Terriers are the masters of head tilting! We sure don’t know why humans need so much talking when barking is easier and funnier, but, we have to pay attention to them anyway… sometimes treatos or walkies are involved…!!”
Over in the Puppy Play event, the ‘cuteness overload’ factor continued to have humans watching with soppy smiles and the odd tears of joy.
First time Captains Ruby and Bear, still puppies themselves, were full of enthusiasm for the Puppy Play event: “We are doing our best to keep up with all the amazing posts for the Puppy Play category. There has been so much Puppy spam and ‘cuteness overload’. Everyone has embraced this new category,” said Ruby.
Bear continued: “Some have fond memories of their fur babies no longer with us and others have memories of the destruction they leave behind growing up! All entries have warmed our hearts, made us smile and make us remember why puppies enter our lives!”
Experienced Captain Lola had this to say: “So far, it's been ‘cuteness overload’, to use the words of Ruby and Bear. It's smiles every time we review an entry and award a medal. Too bad IG doesn't have smellovision, yet - who doesn't love puppy breath?”
When asked about any standout moments, Captain Lola replied instantly: “Ooooo. the true standout is Littlebit and Alfie using the Puppy Play day to announce their new family member, Ffreya!”
Ruby and Bear agreed: “Oh yes, the most exciting news definitely has to be Little bit and Alfie’s new puppy!”
Ruby and Bear wanted to add a heartfelt thanks: “Thank you so much for all your support as we are the new kids on the block for this year’s TU games as Captains. A special mention, from us, to Tilly the princess and her mum, Aunty G for checking in and helping us out and getting us on track”.
